Thulasidas may be made CMD of merged airline

New Delhi April 26 The Chairman and Managing Director of Air India, Mr V. Thulasidas is likely to be the CMD of the new airline created by the merger of Air India and Indian.

While the name of Mr Thulasidas has been proposed for the post of CMD, the chairman and managing director, Indian, Mr V. Trivedi, is likely to be second in command in the new airline.

The appointments will have to be approved by the Cabinet Committee on Appointments before the decision can be implemented.

Sources indicated that Mr Thulasidas would hold office till his retirement, when a successor would be chosen by the Public Enterprises Selection Board.

The merger, which was cleared by the Union Cabinet on March 1 this year, is to be completed in the next 18-24 months and lead to a creation of an airline having a fleet of 111 new aircraft. Sources indicated that while the name of the new entity is likely to be Indian, the Centaur logo of Air India is likely to be dropped.
