New Delhi April 26 The inter-ministerial group to check piracy and counterfeiting would shortly come out with action plan to supervise and take action against offenders.

While speaking at a seminar on Thursday, Dr Ajay Dua, Secretary, Department of Industrial Policy & Promotion (DIPP), said while the Government had put in place a WTO-compliant IPR legal regime, "we need to do much more on the enforcement and implementation front not just at the Central level but more importantly at the State level," he added.

Effective Action

The seminar was jointly organised by FICCI, DIPP and World Intellectual Property Organisation on the occasion of World Intellectual Property Rights Day.

Mr Dua underlined the need to sensitise personnel charged with the responsibility of dealing with counterfeiting and piracy to get them to take effective action at the ground level.

In this context, he said the police tended to give lowest priority to economic offences such as piracy as their main focus is on law and order and civil cases.
