Cottage sector seeks industrial estates

Our Bureau

Coimbatore April 27 TheCoimbatore District unit of the Tamil Nadu Association of Cottage and Micro Enterprises (TACT) has requested the Government to establish industrial estates in the peripheral areas of Coimbatore.

It also wanted the Government to extend the scheme of providing power supply at concessional tariff to the cottage units having power connection up to 25 HP as was done in case of units having power connection up to 10 HP.

In a press statement, Mr J. James, Coimbatore District President, TACT, said the district general council of the association at its meeting on Friday wanted the Tamil Nadu Electricity Board to immediately implement the government order to supply power at concessional rate to cottage and micro industries having power connection up to 10 HP.

The council said that there were more than 30,000 people having cottage and micro units, providing employment to about 2 lakh people. It wanted the Government to establish industrial estates in the areas abutting Coimbatore city — on Avanashi Road, Thadagam Road, Sathy Road, Tiruchi Road and at Thondamathur to benefit this sector.

He said the council also wanted the PSU banks to extend credit facilities, without insisting on any collateral security, to the micro industries maintaining proper accounts with the banks for more than a year.
