Panel for upgrading road traffic

The Tamil Nadu Government has constituted a committee to suggest measures for upgrading road traffic in Chennai, Madurai and Coimbatore.

According to an official press release, the committee headed by the Chief Secretary, Mr L.K. Tripathy, will suggest long-term and short-term measures to upgrade road traffic and related issues. The committee will look at ways to prevent traffic congestion, improve connectivity and infrastructure and suggest short term (to be implemented in a year or two) and long-term measures. It is expected to submit its recommendations in six months. The 12-member committee includes the Vice-Chairman, Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority, and the Secretaries of the Departments

of Housing and Urban Development, Transport, Highways.
