GlaxoSmithKline Pharmaceuticals Ltd has posted a net profit of Rs 111.32 crore for the first quarter or three months ended March 31, 2007, as compared to Rs 101.23 crore for the quarter ended March 31, 2006. Total income (net of excise) is Rs 448.66 crore for the quarter ended March 31 (Rs 448.39 crore). Sales growth of the ongoing businesses was 5.1 per cent and growth in profit before tax and exceptional items was 7 per cent, the company said in an announcement to the Bombay Stock Exchange.

The financial performance for current quarter is not comparable with those of the previous quarter in view of the sale of the animal health business on July 31, 2006, the company added. GSK Pharma shares were down 3.22 per cent on the BSE, at Rs 1,161.95.
