Columbia Asia's new surgery process

Our Bureau

Bangalore April 29 The city-based Columbia Asia Medical hospital hopes to popularise a new surgery process that would require no blood transfusion.

After conducting a few surgeries recently, the hospital has gained expertise in administering the process without causing any damage to arteries, said Dr Sankaran Sundar, Chief Nephrologist, speaking to newspersons.

The surgeries were performed on patients from an African country.

"Dialysis has witnessed a great transition from patients undergoing it 3-4 times a week in hospitals to nocturnal dialysis, wherein patients can administer it themselves on a daily basis at home at night. This also increases their comfort level, as they can get enough rest at night."

The hospital also plans to step up mobile dialysis services in the city.

Columbia Asia, which was set up two years ago, will be expanding to other cities apart from opening another centre in Bangalore.
