Lawrence & Mayo expands dispensing network

A.G. Huzefa

Four more outlets to be opened in the city

Bangalore April 29 Lawrence & Mayo plans to expand its dispensing network in the city even as it focuses on its specialised instruments business, which the company said has enormous potential in the country.

The ophthalmic, optics and instrumentation company will open four more outlets for optical dispensing in the city, to add to its 50 centres in the country.

The company, with a Rs 100 crore turnover, 30 per cent of it from its Instrumentation Division, has stepped up its marketing efforts through direct contact with corporates, educational institutions and residential complexes by conducting Corporate Eye Secreting Programmes and `Vision Clinics'.

Optical dispensers have to contend with the unorganised sector in the business and with low awareness about optical lenses, various eye ailments and vision disorders, said Mr K.N. Dattatri, Senior General Manager.

Market for lens

Mr Dattatri told Business Line that the prescription lenses market has been growing at an annual rate of 20 per cent. This has given an impetus to the dispensing business apart from awareness created by NGOs.

Apart from its own, Lawrence & Mayo, which markets most of the international brands in both prescription lenses and fashion eyeware, recently started dispensing Titan's prescription lenses.

Mr Dattatri said the instrumentation division has tie-ups with global leaders for marketing their precision instruments.
