AP CM to attend global agri forum in US

Hyderabad April 29 The Chief Minister, Dr Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, and the Minister for Agriculture, Mr N. Raghuveera Reddy, will attend the three-day World Agricultural Forum meeting scheduled to be held at St Louis (Missouri) in the US beginning May 8.

The three-day meet would focus on several issues that agricultural sector faces, across the world. It would discuss issues like `How to address growing needs for food, fuel and water for all' and `What kind of investments agriculture needs to create wealth in emerging economies'. The Andhra Pradesh delegation would leave on May 5 for the US.

Lawmakers, top officials and representatives of several financial institutes from about 70 countries would attend the meeting, Mr Reddy said here in a press release.

Strategies

The Government will introduce schemes facilitating farmers to equip them with necessary infrastructure that would allow them to compete in the global markets.

Listing various measures taken up by the State Government to improve the lot of farmers, the Chief Minister said the Government had procured 63 lakh tonnes of paddy during the 2006-07 kharif.
