TNAU aims at higher rice yield

The Tamilnadu Agricultural University (TNAU) has asked its researchers working on yield increase in rice to target 12 tonnes productivity per hectare. Dr C. Ramasamy, Vice-Chancellor, while reviewing the rice research programme recently, also suggested that scientists formulate new pheromones for improved pest controls. According to a release, Dr T.S. Raveendran, Director of the Centre for Plant Breeding and Genetics, said that a new rice culture developed by the University that can yield 3.7 tonnes per hectare could be adopted in rain-fed areas of Ramanathapuram and Sivaganga.
