D. Subbarao is new Secretary Economic Affairs

New Delhi April 30 Dr Duvvuri Subbarao, a 1972 batch officer of the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), has joined the Finance Ministry as Secretary, Department of Economic Affairs (DEA).

Prior to this assignment, Dr Subbarao was Secretary to the Prime Minister's Economic Advisory Council.

Dr Subbarao has been designated as Secretary, DEA, following the vacancy arising from the retirement of Finance Secretary, Mr Ashok Jha.

An alumnus of IIT Kanpur, Dr Subbarao did his MS in Economics from Ohio State University (1978) and was a Humphrey Fellow at MIT during 1982-83. He has a Ph.D in Economics from Andhra University. He has also worked as joint secretary in the Department of Economic Affairs during 1998-1993, when economic reforms were initiated. He also served as Finance Secretary of the Government of Andhra Pradesh during 1993-98.
