Kochi May 1 The Finance Minister, Mr P. Chidambaram, will inaugurate the Tarak Memorial Trade Union Training and Research Centre on June 2 at Mamallapuram, near Chennai, Mr R.J. Sreedharan, General Secretary of the All-India Bank Officers Association (AIBOA), said.

Addressing the eighth conference of AIBOA, Mr Sreedharan, said the new centre would provide training on trade union activities to the organised sections of society, besides training on banking to employees and officers across the country.

The centre, which is named after the late Tarakeswar Chakraborti, leader of bank employees of the country, is to be built at a cost of Rs 80 lakh that will be generated by the officers affiliated to AIBOA and other donations, a press release issued here has said.

The erstwhile Nedungadi Bank Staff Federation had earlier donated Rs 6.93 lakh for the centre.

The conference unanimously passed resolutions seeking another option on pensions, compassionate appointments in banks, opposed outsourcing of bank jobs, recruitment of adequate staff in banks and pay parity to employees of regional rural banks.
