Japan has introduced a simplified visa regime for Indians wanting to travel there, the Japanese Minister for Land, Infrastructure and Transport, Mr Tetsuzo Fuyushiba, said on Tuesday.
"We have introduced a new visa system for passengers applying through eight travel agents. These passengers would not be required to provide proof of income or the actual ticket for obtaining a visa. We are also open to registering more travel agents or tour operators for this scheme," the Minister said while addressing a press conference.
The Minister, who is currently on a tour of India, also submitted a letter to the External Affairs Minister requesting for an early agreement on other visa-related issues pending between India and Japan.
Commenting on the proposed dedicated freight corridor project, the Minister said India and Japan have decided to set up a joint study group that would look at the best possible ways of providing a link with the ports that are on the corridor's route.
During a meeting with Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh, issues relating to transport and travel among others were also discussed.
