Dabhol pipeline: Gujarat concern over natural gas price rise

Mumbai
May 1
Mr Nitin Gadkari, President of Maharashtra unit of BJP, today said that the Gujarat Government fears a rise in the prices of natural gas in the state if all the imported natural gas at Dahej port is pumped to the Dabhol power plant in Maharashtra.
This is the reason why there is resistance to the construction of the pipeline from Dahej to Dabhol.
Mr Gadkari said that the Gujarat Government also has some concerns over the royalty on natural gas, which would be transported from the State.
Therefore it has asked GAIL India Ltd to suspend work on the gas pipeline.
At a press conference here today, Mr Gadkari refuted the allegations made by the Maharashtra Energy Minster, Mr Dilip Walse Patil, against the Chief Minister of Gujarat, Mr Narendra Modi, on the delay in completing the Dahej- Dabhol gas pipeline.
About 12-km work on the pipeline in Surat district has been suspended.
Mr Gadkari said that the suspension of pipeline is purely a dispute between Gujarat and the Union Government and not between Maharashtra and Gujarat Governments.
Therefore Mr Patil should not target the Gujarat Government but instead seek the intervention of Union Petroleum Minister, Mr Murli Deroa, in the matter.
