Human Resources States - Maharashtra Excellence Aviation plans Rs 15-cr pilot training institute Our Bureau
Kolkata May 2 Excellence Aviation Academy is working on plans to set up a pilot training institute in Maharashtra at an estimated investment of Rs 15 crore. The proposed pilot training facility will be set up at an airport owned by the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation. The pilots will be trained in Cessna aircraft before they qualify to obtain commercial pilots licence. This was stated by Mr Parvez Damania, Chairman, Excellence Aviation Academy (EAA), at a function held here on Wednesday to announce the launch of the first EAA centre in eastern India. Mr Damania said necessary permissions from statutory authorities would have to be obtained first before more details of the project could be divulged. According to him, with a burgeoning aviation industry, India would need more trained pilots, cabin crew and technical and non-technical personnel for handling check-in, customer service, security, cargo handling, ramp operations, and so on. "Airlines in India have booked more than 400 aircraft and each aircraft requires about 150 aviation professionals While pilots and in-flight crew make up around 30 per aircraft, the balance 120 comprise other technical and non-technical personnel. EAA has been set up by people who have hands-on experience in the aviation industry and we hope to provide the industry with trained aviation personnel," he said.
More centres
Mr Damania said EAA centres have been set up primarily in western and northern India. After today's launch in Kolkata, EAA centres would be opened in the South. From around 24 centres now, the number would go up to 48 by the end of the current fiscal. The entire national rollout would be on franchisee mode. The duration of various courses would be between two months and one year and the cost structure had been pegged in the Rs 25,000-Rs 1 lakh range, Mr Damania said.
