A two-day symposium on `Museums of Karnataka' was inaugurated at Dharmasthala in Dakshina Kannada district on Wednesday. Inaugurating the symposium - jointly organised by the Hampi-based Kannada University and Manjusha Museum in Dharmasthala - Dr D. Veerendra Heggade, Dharmadhikari of Sri Kshetra Dharmasthala, said the governments at state and central level should work on protecting and aiding the growth of museums.

Terming museums as great centres of learning, he said the culture of creating and maintaining museums is lacking in the country. Dr B.A. Vivek Rai, Vice-Chancellor of the university, said museums face the problem of maintaining constant growth. He suggested that the establishment of a boat museum in costal Karnataka could throw more light on growth of technology over the years.
