Bharti, Vodafone join hands in Channel Islands

Our Bureau

New Delhi May 2 They may be gearing up to compete with each other in the Indian cellular market but Bharti and Vodafone are jointly going to the market in the Channel Islands.

Jersey Airtel Ltd and Guernsey Airtel Ltd, subsidiaries of Bharti Enterprises, today announced that they have entered into an agreement with Vodafone, to bring a range of Vodafone's global products to its customers in the Island countries.

The services will be offered under the `Airtel-Vodafone' brand name.

The move comes even as Vodafone is all set to foray into the Indian cellular market in partnership with the Essar Group.

Vodafone and Bharti have also agreed to share infrastructure in India.

The two companies will be vying with each other for a larger share of the booming cellular market.

Commenting on partnership with Vodafone in Channel Islands, Mr Sunil Bharti Mittal, Chairman & Group CEO of Bharti Enterprises said, "We are happy to partner Vodafone to offer services tailored to the needs of customers in this region."

Bharti is now looking to aggressively roll out telecom services in other countries. It has been offering comprehensive telecom services in Seychelles through a subsidiary Telecom Seychelles.
