World Bank project for marketing

Hyderabad May 3 The World Bank has announced a project to improve marketing system for agricultural commodities in India by roping in private sector participants.

The Multi-State Agricultural Competitiveness Project (MACP) would be implemented in Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Orissa, Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh.

Addressing a press conference here on Wednesday, Mr Robert Epworth, Team Leader of the Bank, said the idea was to empower farmers by giving more options to market his produce. "

The project, which is being finalised, would increase efficiencies and reduce costs in the marketing chain. It is expected to be launched by the year-end. The project in Andhra Pradesh is likely to cost Rs 125-150 crore.
