Overseas Investments PSL ties up with US co for setting up unit Our Bureau
Mumbai May 3 The city-based pipe manufacturing company, PSL Ltd, and A&L Group, located in the US, have entered into a joint venture to establish a pipe mill on a 156-acre site in the Port of Bienville Industrial Park, Bay St. Louis, Mississippi. PSL will hold about 75 per cent equity (investment of about $20 million) in the project for which a subsidiary PSL - NA (North America) will be set up. The proposed unit will manufacture, coat and line large diameter pipes of `24 inches to 60 inches', with wall thickness ranging from one fourth inch to an inch and of length up to 80 inches (grade up to X80). A PSL release said the company was building the facility as the domestic demand in the US for large diameter line pipes for natural gas transportation far exceeded supply. The Rs 1,700-crore company PSL has plants in Daman, Kandla, Jaipur, Chennai, Kakinada and Visakhapatnam. The pipe manufacturer undertakes coal-tar enamel coating, concrete weight coating, fusion bonded and internal epoxy coating, besides three-layered polyethylene coatings. The coated pipes are used for transportation of gas, crude oil, water and petroleum products. A&L offers construction services in the US and some select markets, including cross-country pipeline construction, station-fabrication/ installation and gas distribution.
