New Projects Phillips Carbon plans capacity expansion Our Bureau
Kolkata May 3 Having achieved a turnaround in the fiscal 2006-07 with a PBDT of about Rs 65 crore (against Rs 1.78 crore in the previous year), Phillips Carbon Black Ltd (PCBL), an RPG company, is now set to expand its capacity by 1,25,000 tonnes. The capacity expansion will cover both greenfield and brownfield. As a result, PCBL's installed capacity will reach 3,95,000 tonnes to meet the growing demand of carbon black, both in the domestic and international markets. The greenfield project, to be located in Mundra, Gujarat, will have an initial capacity of 75,000 tonnes. This will be PCBL's 4th plant in India, after Durgapur (1,40,000 tonnes), Baroda (95,000 tonnes) and Kochi (35,000 tonnes). Another 50,000-tonne capacity will be added at Kochi. The carbon black capacity expansion will involve capital expenditure of Rs 244 crore.
Co-gen plant
The PCBL Board has approved the plan to set up co-generation power plants (using off gas) of 26 MW 12 MW at Kochi and 14 MW at Mundra, involving an estimated cost of Rs 106 crore. After completion of these expansion plans, PCBL's power generation capacity will reach 74.5 MW. Both the projects are scheduled to be completed during by 2009.
