East Coast Rly plans new station

East Coast Railway is planning to have a new railway station north of Bhubaneswar to cope with the projected increase in traffic — both passenger and freight. The present railway goods shed will be shifted close to the proposed station and, for this, 20 acres of land has been identified.

Steel Authority of India Ltd's stockyard, now located adjacent to the railway goods shed and unable to handle the increased volume of traffic, too will be relocatednear Kapilas Road station, for which the Orissa Government has promised land. Once these relocations are in place, the number of platforms in the Bhubaneswar railway station will be increased to six from the present four and, subsequently, when the construction of a third line between Barang and Khurda Road is complete, there will be more platforms.
