Software IT solutions for Mumbai airport
Mumbai International Airport Private Limited (MIAL) has tied up with SITA, a provider of integrated IT business solutions and communication services for the air transport industry, for its Airport Management System. This tie-up will facilitate air travel in several ways. MIAL Managing Director, Mr Sanjay Reddy, said that the new system would lead to more efficient allocation of resources such as departure gates, aircraft slots, check-in counters and baggage carousels. It will also enable effective co-ordination and provide real-time information for managers and ground handlers. The full suite of SITA IT applications in the airport management system for Mumbai's Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport (CSIA), includes Airport Central, which provides a centralised database and automated functions for receiving, processing and distributing consolidated operations data. This enables analysis of multiple scenarios for long-range planning. Similarly, another application, Airport Vision, is based on the latest Internet technology with multi-media capability for the display of key flight data, weather and other information for the travelling public on airport monitors throughout the terminals. CSIA is the country's busiest airport that has witnessed rapid growth in passenger and freight traffic in the recent past. During April last year and March this year the passenger traffic touched 22.25 million, an increase of 21 per cent over the previous year. MIAL is a joint venture between GVK-South Africa consortium and Airports Authority of India (AAI) that has been mandated by the Government to modernise and upgrade the Mumbai airport.
