Good demand for CTC, dust varieties

Our Bureau

Kolkata May 6 All three auction centres at Guwahati, Siliguri and Kolkata experienced all-round good demand for CTC and dust varieties with prices following quality. The domestic market operated with strength, according to the tea auctioneers, J. Thomas & Company Pvt Ltd.

Orthodox teas sold readily. Whole leaf and fannings sold at lower rates, while the brokens were firm to occasionally dear. The shippers to the West Asia and the CIS countries dominated the market.

Darjeeling teas met with a good demand with prices following quality. The traditional exporters were active with some local interests. Tata Tea entered the market for the medium whole leaf grades on offer.

In several growing regions of the North Indian teas, there was a lull in production last week mainly due to adverse weather conditions with the result the crop outturns declined.
