Chennai May 7 Adobe Systems India, part of Adobe Systems Inc, is taking its products to schools to let students in classes 5-12 familiarise themselves with products like Photoshop. This initiative will help them plan an alternative career in areas like web design and animation, according to a company official. Mr Sandeep Mehrotra, Country Sales Manager, Adobe Systems India, told reporters that the project was launched during last quarter in a few private schools in Delhi. The company now plans to expand this to other States, including Karnataka and Tamil Nadu. Students would use Photoshop to share images and also do projects, he said. Schools with computer labs were provided with Adobe products. The company would train the trainers on its products and also help schools with specific curriculum on Adobe, he said. Mr Mehrotra, quoting Nasscom said there was a huge shortage of animators in the country. There are around 20,000 animators now and 3 lakh would be required in the next couple of years. Adobe's software is used for business, entertainment and personal communications from `rich' images in print, video and film to digital content for a variety of media, he said. Adobe is assisting a technical university in Tamil Nadu to set up a multimedia lab for students aspiring to acquire skills in the creative industry. The State has a huge market potential with large number of publications being published out of here. Chennai alone has more than 1,000 printers and free press houses and more than 100 content outsourcing organisations, he said.
