Panel urges BEL to diversify

New Delhi May 7 Expressing concern over the State-owned Bharat Electronics Ltd's falling order-book position, a high-level Parliamentary panel has asked the public sector enterprises to scout for new diversification opportunities.

"The company is faced with a huge order drop from armed forces, its prime market," according to the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Defence, which has asked it to look at a diversified market opportunities in civil aviation, shipping and railways.

The Committee, which has undertaken a critical review of BEL, in a report tabled in Parliament, asked the company to go in for production of specialised detectors to aid private and police and para-military organisation in checking drug trafficking.
