Land banks

When the Planning Commission meets on May 14, it would be useful for it to consider the formation of land banks, on the model of the one created by the Kerala Government.

This reformative step of acquiring diverse pieces of land for pooling together has as its main aim the providing of land for special projects and will help eliminate inordinate delays over land acquisition for projects.

The nationalised banks must help the farming community with a modern, reformative approach, as suggested. If not, private and other banks will take the lead in providing sustained support to farmers.
