The Thiruvananthapuram Passport Officer, Mr Balachandran Nair, has said that those who need passports urgently should ideally place their request under the Tatkal Scheme. The procedure for applying under the Tatkal Scheme is detailed in the information booklet attached to the application. No proof of urgency is required. The announcement comes in the backdrop of many applicants seeking out-of-turn issue of passports after submitting their applications in the normal course. On an average, it takes 35 days to issue a passport. Entertaining requests for out-of-turn issue results in diversion of limited resources and further delays the issue of other passports, Mr Nair said. Out-of-turn issues will be considered only in very exceptional cases, he added.
