Telecommunications HelloSoft working on next gen dual mode handsets V. Rishi Kumar
Details The handsets will have the capacity to switch between GSM and Wi-Fi networks. They support superior streaming of videos and help share real time information.
Hyderabad May 8 HelloSoft, a handheld devices and mobile phones company, is working with most of the major handset manufacturers on the next generation dual mode handsets that makes the switch over to different networks seamlessly. These dual mode handsets would have the capacity to switch between GSM and Wi-Fi networks, which also harness the power of Internet Protocol, providing cost benefits. The General Manager of HelloSoft, in-charge of mobile devices and voice over IP (VoIP), Mr Ron Victor, said that the first set of commercial deployment of such dual mode handsets would hit the market next year.
Sharing information
These handsets would help superior streaming of videos and help share information real time. For instance, when one uses a phone to capture snaps or a video clip, simultaneously, a friend or a family member can watch them elsewhere, Mr Victor explained. Describing the GSM network as one cloud, and wi-fi networks as another, Mr Victor, on a visit to India, told Business Line that these handsets powered by HelloSoft software would be able to harness the power of both these networks and make the experience of the user an enriching one. Referred to as HelloDual, this enables a mobile device manufacturer to design and architect products that are power efficient and provide cost benefits. This assists handset manufacturers to reach out to the mass market offering these benefits.
CALL CONTINUITY
The company, which has 120 developers at Hyderabad, has had about 27 patent filings and about nine of them have thus far been granted. They have stepped up intellectual property work in India and have developed a technology framework that provides signalling and device management capabilities that cuts down power consumption. This compliments what the company describes as voice call continuity (VCC) that provides with the facility of instant messaging, push to talk, group list management and video conferencing. The designers at HelloSoft have managed to bring about convergence of these cellular clouds and wi-fi network. This software goes in Arm core and helps handset manufacturers to make their phones more versatile and also help telecom companies offer new set of value added services, he said.
