Tea Selective demand at Coimbatore tea auction Our Bureau
Coimbatore May 8 The total offerings dipped marginally from 3.85 lakh kg the earlier week to 3.54 lakh kg for the just ended week at the weekly tea auction held at the Tea Trade Association of Coimbatore. Of the total, the leaf grades accounted for 1.38 lakh kg and the remaining was dust. There was fair but selective demand for the best Nilgiris high grown orthodox leaf, which ruled firm to dearer, while others were irregular in line with quality.
Better Appearance
CIS exporters operated with fair strength. HLL was absent. Internal buyers and few exporters operated on orthodox dust. Bright liquoring CTC leaf witnessed fair support from upcountry buyers. Medium bolder grades ruled firm to dearer, while brokens and fannings were around previous week's levels. CTC dust, however, registered good demand. Medium/plainer teas with better appearance remained steady and exporters generally active on these grades. The orthodox high growns were quoting in the Rs 58-80 price band, while best CTCs were available in the Rs 45-Rs 54 range band.
