Kolkata May 9 Reliance Communications (RCOM) has bagged an e-governance project from the Government of West Bengal.

Under the project, RCOM will set up 1,860 Common Service Centres (CSCs) across the state for providing Government-to-Government, Government-to-Business, Government-to-Citizen, Business-to-Business and Business-to-Consumer services to the rural population in the state on a build-own-operate model.

According to a press release issued here by RCOM, the company today signed a Master Service Agreement with the West Bengal Government for execution of the CSC project as per the guidelines of the Department of Information Technology, Government of India. The project is expected to benefit 26 lakh households in the state.

The project will also involve the participation of other Reliance Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Group companies to offer innovative products and services in the field of finance, healthcare, education/training/capacity building, entertainment, energy, travel, etc, to semi-urban and rural markets in West Bengal.

The release adds that each CSC would have a minimum of one PC and facilities for voice/data/video communication with a view to providing the services that would be offered. Each centre would be managed by a village-level entrepreneur working as a franchisee of RCOM.
