Our Bureau

Mumbai May 9 3i Infotech said on Wednesday it has partnered with Financial Information Network & Operations Ltd (FINO) to roll out financial services predominantly in the country's rural areas using Common Service Centres (CSCs).

The CSC scheme is part of the National e-Governance Plan (NeGP), which calls for a public-private partnership model to bring governance services to the doorstep of citizens. FINO is a multi-bank promoted company providing card-based application solutions in rural and semi-urban areas of the country.

3i Infotech has already won CSC projects in Karnataka and Haryana, said a company release. The company will invest over Rs 3 lakh per centre and run operations at the CSCs, the release said. "We have nearly implemented 800 CSCs in Karnataka and are in the process of setting up 300 centres in Haryana," said Mr Vikas Aggarwal, Vice President - e-governance & Consulting, 3i Infotech.

The CSCs will provide direct access to government-to-citizen (G2C) and business-to-consumer (B2C) services such as utility bill payment, water tax, land record certificates, sales tax, VAT, e-filing of tax returns, issue of income certificates, birth certificates and so on.

"CSCs will recognise customers through smartcards and biometrics such as fingerprints," said Mr Anirudh P., Chief Operating Officer - South Asia, 3i Infotech.
