Schwarzenegger to visit State in November


Dr Rajasekhara Reddy had detailed discussions with Mr Schwarzenegger on boosting further trade ties between Andhra Pradesh and California.

Hyderabad May 10 The Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister, Dr Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, has asked the Stanford University, California, to locate its offshore campus in Hyderabad and assured necessary infrastructure.

He was the Chief Guest at the signing of a MoU between Stanford University, Government of Andhra Pradesh and Satyam EMRI.

Training Paramedics

Dr Reddy informed the Chairman, Board of Trustees, Stanford University, Mr Burt McMurtry, that Hyderabad was developing fast in many areas such as infrastructure, IT, BT, pharmaceuticals, textiles etc.

Mr McMurtry agreed in-principle to set up an institute in the State and assured to provide affordable healthcare to the poor, the release said. EMRI and Stanford University Medical Centre have come together to prepare professionals in emergency care in India through this agreement.

The MoU envisages EMRI, a non-profit group based in Hyderabad to train India's new corps of paramedics. In addition to training paramedics, the Stanford group will teach paramedic educators in India who can carry on the work of instructing the next generation of advanced emergency medical technicians.

In a little more than a year, EMRI already has responded to roughly 2,50,000 emergencies and saved more than 10,000 lives according to its CEO, Mr Venkat Changavalli.

Global Health

The Dean of the Stanford School of Medicine, Mr Philip Pizzo, said the new partnership was part of a major effort, called the Stanford Challenge, in which the University works to improve global health by reaching out to other parts of the world. "We are committed to transforming the lives of those in our communities — locally, nationally and globally," he said.

In another development, the Governor of California, Mr Arnold Schwarzenegger — with a high-level trade, IT, business and cultural delegation — agreed to visit Hyderabad in November to discuss mutual co-operation and investment opportunities in Andhra Pradesh.

This was decided at a meeting Dr Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, had with the California Governor today during his US tour. The Chief Minister had detailed discussions with Mr Arnold Schwarzenegger on boosting further trade ties between Andhra Pradesh and California in many vital sectors, the release added.
