Konecranes may set up manufacturing facility here

Our Bureau

New Delhi May 10 The Finland-based crane manufacturer, Konecranes, plans to set up a manufacturing plant in India, the Company Chief Executive Officer and President, Mr Pekka Lundmark, had said.

"At present, we do annual business here worth about $10 million that is estimated to grow to $100 million in the next few years. At present, the equipment is imported. We would surely look at opening a manufacturing facility in India, which would be used to service not only the local but also the global market. When the facility opens we would look at all options, including having an Indian joint venture partner or setting it up ourselves," Mr Lundmark said on Wednesday.

The company that has been supplying equipment to several steel mills and port projects here India for many years now, opened its first office in Pune earlier this year.

"The opening of the office provides an opportunity for customers to have a round-the-clock facility for all their queries. We will also look to expand this office," Mr Lundmark said.
