AP to transfer 10 depts to panchayats

Hyderabad May 11 The State Government is all set to transfer additional power to the panchayats in accordance with the 73rd Constitutional Amendment Act.

The preparation of the Government Orders has been completed and the State Cabinet will approve the transfer of powers after the arrival of the Chief Minister, Dr Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, from his foreign tour, Mr E. Chandrasekhara Reddy, Minister for Panchayati Raj, told newspersons here on Thursday.

FIRST PHASE

"In the first phase, 10 departments which are among the 29 items mentioned in the 11th Schedule of the Constitution under Article 243-G will be transferred to panchayati institutions," Mr Reddy said.

DEPT DETAILS

The departments of animal husbandry, fisheries, agriculture and extension, primary, secondary and adult education, women and child welfare, rural water supply, welfare of backward classes, scheduled castes and tribes, health, sanitation, primary health centres and poverty eradication will be transferred to panchayats, he said.

FUNDS ALLOCATION

On the allocation of funds, the Minister said Rs 333.97 crore had been sanctioned for roads in the rural areas under Indiramma scheme. Similarly, Rs 34 crore for Minimum Needs Programme, Rs 25 crore for Rajiv Palle Bata, Rs 100 crore for housing, Rs 114 crore for rural road repairs and Rs 9.6 crore for secondary school buildings would be spent during 2007-08, among others.

On the district planning committees, Mr Reddy said the Government had completed all the procedural formalities and the committees would take up draft plans for district development.
