Increasing exports

SHORT-SUPPLY: Pepper being harvested at an estate near Kochi, Kerala. Short supply from other origins coupled with competitive prices led to an increase in the country's export of pepper last year. Exports showed a substantial increase to 24,673 tonnes, valued at Rs 242.8 crore, in 2006 from 15,800 tonnes in 2005.
