Moderate fall in Kochi tea prices

Kochi May 11 There was a moderate fall in tea prices at the Kochi auction, which had 991,000 kg of dust tea on offer. Clean and good liquoring varieties were at last week's levels. High-priced CTC varieties eased by Rs 2-4, while medium CTC varieties eased by Re 1-Rs 2.

High grown orthodox dust was easier by Re 1-Rs 2, while medium orthodox remained barely steady. Major blenders and buyers from the domestic market lent support on good liquoring CTC varieties. There was some enquiry from exporters.

Best CTC varieties ranged between Rs 63 and Rs 74, medium CTC was at Rs 55-62 and below medium was quoted at Rs 45-48. High-grown BOPD varieties fetched Rs 80-113, while medium BOPD was quoted at Rs 46-47.

Leaf Sale

There was 258,000 kg of leaf tea on offer. Prices of high grown orthodox varieties eased by Rs 2-4, medium orthodox remained barely steady, while CTC prices eased by Re 1-Rs 2. There was one enquiry from CIS exporters on orthodox grades. Bolder CTC also witnessed some export enquiry.

Best Nilgiri varieties fetched Rs 70-80, medium orthodox ranged at Rs 53-75 and plain orthodox was at Rs 45-52. Best CTC leaf was quoted at Rs 52-57, while medium CTC ranged at Rs 46-49.

Top Prices

Kodanad BOPD fetched the top price in the dust segment at Rs 113, followed by Pasuparai FD at Rs 85, Pasuparai SFD at Rs 82 and Pasuparai SRD at Rs 82. In the leaf segment, Chamraj FOP quoted the top price at Rs 121, followed by Chamraj OP at Rs 120, Havukal OP at Rs 115 and Havukal FOP at Rs 110.
