Olympus investing Rs 50 cr in exclusive showrooms

New Delhi May 14 Camera manufacturer Olympus plans to invest Rs 50 crore in India for setting up six exclusive showrooms.

These showrooms would be set up in Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Chennai and Kolkata in the next 2-3 years. The showrooms would be owned by Olympus and managed by authorised distributors.

The company also plans to double its sales revenues in India from about $10 million last year to $20 million this year.

"The total market in India was about 6.5 lakh units last year and is likely to become 10 lakh units in the current year. Our target is to sell 1,40,000 digital cameras in the current fiscal, hoping for a growth of 30-40 per cent in the next 2-3 years," said Mr Kazutaka Fukuda, General Manager, Olympus Imaging Corp, India Liaison Office.

To achieve this growth, the company plans to strengthen its sales and service network and increase its dealership network by 20 per cent, he added.Olympus' products are present in over 2,000 multi-brand outlets, which the company plans to increase to 3,500 in the next six months.

The company today unveiled its range of water-proof, shock-proof digital cameras priced between Rs 15,995 and Rs 41,995.
