Entrepreneurs receive industrial merit awards

Pune May 14 Electrolytic iron powder that fortifies flour, an aluminium pod for a multi-barrel rocket launching system and a low-cost brewing system were amongst the products that received the Industrial Merit Awards for 2007 given by the Mahratta Chamber of Commerce, Industries and Agriculture.

Mr Mahesh Dhoka received the G.S. Parkhe award for developing iron powder that is added with a vitamin prefix to flour to enrich it and give the consumer the necessary vital nutrients.

The other two recipients were Mr Vineet Marathe who has invented an Aluminium pod and fixtures for the Pinaca multi-barrel rocket launching system, a weapon system for the Indian army and Mr S W Gadre who has developed QCT Jaw, an efficient alternative for CNC solftJaw. The Quick Tip Change Jaws save 15 to 30 minutes in setting and Rs 15,000 to 30,000 per machine per year.

The Hari Malini Joshi award was given to Mr A.N. Limaye for developing a modular portable castor wheel stand for two- wheelers, while a low cost on-farm brewing equipment called KREF Bio-refinery that can be used to brew microbes and extract organic nutrients from compost by using a standardised kit received the Ramabai Joshi award.

Ms Sandeepa Kanitkar has developed the technology.

The awards are given to SSI entrepreneurs from Maharashtra for developing innovative or new products, and design, process, service or import substitute items.

During the last 59 years, over 400 entrepreneurs have received it.
