Rs 77-crore sanctioned for road works in TN

Coimbatore May 14 The Tamil Nadu Government has approved execution of 28 road works in the State at a cost of about Rs 77 crore.

This follows the administrative sanction received from the Union Ministry of Shipping, Road Transport and Highways for carrying out the works with financial assistance from the Central Road Fund.

An order issued by the Highways Department Secretary, Mr K. Allaudin, said that the Government had accorded financial approval for Rs 77.70 crore for implementing the 28 works for a total length of 216.6 km. The Chief Engineer (NH) was asked to give technical sanction for the works within a period of 3 months from the date of administrative approval and the project should be completed within 24 months.

The road improvement works for specific stretches to be taken up under the project are widening and strengthening of Cheyyur-Vandavasi-Polur road (for a length of 16 km at an estimated cost of Rs 3.71 crore) and Arcot-Villupuram road (14 km and Rs 4.19 crore) both in Tiruvannamalai district, Chittur-Tiruttani road (13 km and Rs 4 crore) in Vellore district, Ponnagaram-Naganmarai road in Dharmapuri district (29.40 km and Rs 3.5 crore), Kadayanallur-Kasidharmam-Achanpudur road in Tirunelveli district (6.40 km and Rs 2.27 crore), Alvarthirunagari-Nazareth-Sathankulam-Ittamozhi-Valliyur road in Tuticorin district(7 km and Rs 4.34 crore), Palladam-Mangalam road in Coimbatore district (5 km and Rs 2 crore), improvements to Tambaram-Somangalam road in Kancheepuram district ( 9.60 km and Rs 9 crore), Thirukattupalli-Pattukottai-Chengipatti road in Thanjavur district (11.60 km and Rs 4.56 crore) and Ullikottai-Thallikottai-Vadasery road in Tiruvarur district ( 7.50 km and Rs 5 crore).

The proposal also envisages construction of a high level bridge on the Chennai-Tiruttani-Renigunta road and widening of the road by a length of 1.2 km at a total cost of Rs 2.5 crore in Tiruvallur district and building a bridge on Thogamalai-Mallampattu road in Karur district at a cost of Rs 1 crore.
