New Delhi, May 15

Noted industrialist Dr Charat Ram passed away on Tuesday. Known for stewarding the Shriram Group to commendable heights, Dr Ram was President of the FICCI in 1973-74. He was also a known philanthropist. "We have lost a doyen of the Indian industry, noted for his business acumen, simplicity of lifestyle and respected by compatriots," said the CII in a release.

Expressing deep shock, FICCI President Mr Habil Khorakiwala described him as a visionary and an outstanding business leader. "Dr Ram was a beacon of light for businesspersons in India, one who was dedicated to the cause of both business and its responsibility towards society."
