New Projects States - Maharashtra Sauer-Danfoss opens new facility at Pune Our Bureau
Pune May 16 Sauer-Danfoss Inc has inaugurated its new manufacturing facility at Kesnand Industrial Estate near Wagholi in Pune. Talking to presspersons, Mr Wolfgang Weisser, Vice-President, Sales and Marketing, Greater Europe and Chairman of the Board of Sauer-Danfoss India Pvt Ltd, said the new plant spread over 15,000 sq m was set up with an investment of $7 million. The plant currently has a manufacturing capacity of 1,50,000 components of hydraulic components and would ramp it up to 2,50,000 components within a couple of years. He said the facility would manufacture two products steering unit and special valves and would cater to the domestic market. He said it would also cater to a limited extent to the US and European market and said it was looking at making India as a strategic centre for global procurement of parts for their own manufacturing. He said several such components have been identified and exports from India have already begun. Currently, exports was below 10 per cent, but stressed the Pune manufacturing facility would on a priority basis cater to the domestic market. He said the company started its India operations in June 2001 with the setting up of operations in Gurgaon. In August 2002, it established its brake valve assembly line in Gurgaon and in April 2004, set up the manufacturing unit in Pune at a leased facility. He said operations at Gurgaon has been terminated and would function only as a sales office to cater to the North India market. The personnel and the brake valve assembly line have been shifted to Pune. Currently, it has about 90 people on its rolls at the Pune facility. Mr Wolfgang said it was looking at becoming a component and system supplier not only in hydraulics but also in other segments such as electrical, electronics and mechanical. The company services markets such as agriculture, construction, road building, material handling, municipal, forestry, turf care and speciality. The company has been registering a 13 per cent growth rate since 2000 and said it has crossed $1.7 billion in revenue in 2006. The target for the current year is to touch $2 billion in revenue, he added.
