Launches stir against proposed land sale to Gulf co

Visakhapatnam May 16 The Andhra Pradesh Government is trying to mislead the farmers of Ramannapalem village in Visakhapatnam district and acquire 3,000 acres of land to be handed over to a Gulf company — Ras Al Khimah — for setting up an alumina refinery, according to the district unit of the CPI(M).

Launching the agitation against the proposed refinery at the village on Wednesday, the CPI(M), also opposing the setting up of a refinery by the Jindals in Vizianagaram district and bauxite mining in Visakhapatnam district, alleged that the State Government was going about the refinery proposal in a clandestine manner.

According to Mr M.V.S Sarma and Mr Ch Narasinga Rao, CPI(M) leaders, The details of the MoU signed with the Gulf company are not made public yet.

Though the Commercial Taxes Minister is denying it, attempts are on to acquire land for the proposed refinery, they alleged and exhorted the farmers to fight the proposal.
