Strategy Info-Tech - Telecommunications States - Andhra Pradesh BSNL targets 15 lakh new users in AP Our Bureau
Hyderabad May 17 The state-owned Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) plans to add about 15 lakh new mobile phone connections and four lakh broadband connections in Andhra Pradesh during the year, while gearing up for the launch of IPTV (Internet protocol television) through broadband within three to four months. The Chief General Manager, BSNL, Andhra Pradesh Telecom Circle, Mr S. Ramalingam, said that the network and capacity expansion would be supplemented by enhanced customer care, which has been accorded top priority by the operator.
Customer care portal
Addressing newspersons after inaugurating a new customer care portal www.apbsnl.co.in on the World Telecom Day here on Thursday, Mr Ramalingam said that the circle would invest Rs 700 crore and add 700 new cell sites, thereby, covering 1,026 mandals across the State. With a subscriber base of 18.4 lakh in the circle, BSNL accounts for a market share of about 18-20 per cent. This expansion would ensure that all villages with a population of more than 1,000 would have the facility for mobile phone services.
Unlimited call scheme
The telecom operator has now extended the unlimited free call schemes to all landline and wireless in local loop (WLL) customers in the State. It was earlier available only in Hyderabad, Vijayawada and Visakhapatnam. This unlimited call scheme is covered under Plan 399, 599 and 899, respectively, each having some distinct advantages. The Principal General Manager, Hyderabad Telecom District, Mr P.S.R. Krishna, said the equipment for IPTV was undergoing validation and would be launched within three to four months. This would enable BSNL to offer Internet, cable TV and video on demand services.
