Bangalore May 17 In a bid to make uninterrupted access to the new international airport coming up in Devanahalli, about 40 km from the city, the State Government has decided to build 21.2 km expressway from Outer Ring road. The work on the project is expected to start in September. It is estimated to cost Rs 482 crore.

The high-speed toll expressway would start from Horamavu in the city and end at the airport approach road. The Government would be acquiring 617 acres for building the expressway, Mr Ramesh Jalki, Managing Director of the Karnataka Road Development Corporation, and Mr Sudhir Krishna, Commissioner, Bangalore Metropolitan Regional Development Authority, told media persons here on Thursday.

Twenty-six companies have submitted expression of interest for the project for which the financial closure is expected to be reached in August, after the bidding process is completed next month.

The Bangalore International Airport is expected to be operational by April 2008. The expressway would have a mix of an elevated four-lane corridor of two-km length which will connect the six-lane 19.2-km carriageway leading to the airport.

Mr Krishna indicated that the toll fare could range from Rs 50 to Rs 120 for cars to heavy vehicles.
