Proposal management pros can soon get certified

Our Bureau

Bangalore May 17 Professionals working in the area of bid management and proposal consulting in the country can now get an international accreditation from the Association of Proposal Management Professionals (APMP).

Software Quality Centre India and Shipley Ltd, UK, have partnered to bring training and consulting services around proposal, bid management and business improvement areas, leading to a certification by APMP.

Currently APMP is offering three levels of certification for bid and proposal management professionals: Foundation, practitioner and professional for people with one, three and seven years experience in the area.

Expertise offered will be in the areas of writing winning executive summaries, managing proposal content development and managing proposal kick-off meetings and reviews.

"The industry has never had formal education or certification so far and professionals only learnt on-the-job," says Mr Krish Puthucode, President and CEO, Software Quality Centre LLC.

Though no exact estimates are available on the number of professionals in the area in the country, a ballpark figure of 2,500-3,000 is what rough calculations would lead to, says Mr Puthucode.

The plan is to enrol four early adapters to the programme (comprising big names in IT) and let word-of-mouth do the rest, he adds.

Mr Tony Birch, Managing Director, Shipley Ltd, who has trained over 10,000 professionals in the area, is upbeat about the Indian market. "If India can offer us even 1,000 professionals in the foundation course initially, it's going to keep us busy," he says.
