Hyderabad May 20 The Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister, Dr Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, today said that a pilot project to install ISI standard pumpsets to ensure quality power supply to the farm sector would be launched shortly.

Dr. Reddy directed officials to initiate steps to collect data once the pilot project got underway, which would be useful for next phase work. The programme would be undertaken in the selected districts, where farmers have installed non-ISI pumpsets.

According to a statement from the Chief Minister's Office, Dr Reddy was informed that Rs 3,600 crore was needed to take up the project of installation of ISI pumpsets all over the State. The Government would bear 80 per cent of the cost of these ISI pumpsets.

The Chief Minister said that the project would be launched in NarappaReddypalli and Chinna Kodela sub-stations in Kadapa district located under the Southern Power Distribution Company Ltd.

It is estimated that by installing ISI pump sets, the State would be able to save power worth Rs 800 crore and the Government Rs 240 crore as there would be no need to buy power.

The Chief Minister assured farmers that there would be no fund crunch for the project.

In addition, Chukkapur sub-station in Machareddy mandal of Nizamabad district under Northern Power Distribution Company Ltd, Chintalapudi sub-station in Eastern Power Distribution Company Ltd and Chukkapur and Rampur sub-stations of Central Power Distribution Company Ltd would be covered under the pilot project. It is estimated that over 4,000 pumpsets would be covered under this initiative.
