Climate change

The article `Climate change and the ostrich syndrome' (Business Line, May 16) paints a frightening picture of the phenomenon of climate change. It is significant that in nearly a third of the world, the process of development is in a state of progress.

Industrialisation for economic development and the rising purchasing power in developing countries contribute to a rapid increase in emission of greenhouse gases.

Besides, the production of greenhouse gases by the developed countries is already alarming.

In such a situation, developing countries should take the initiative to move the UN to put in place an effective mechanism to urge the developed countries to curb the production of greenhouse gases and also help the developing ones to find technological solutions to help reduce the production of these gases in the process of industrial development.
