Airtel cuts rates to US, Canada to Rs 1.99

Our Bureau

New Delhi May 21 Bharti Airtel on Monday upped the ante in the ongoing tariff war in the international global calling cards segment by reducing ISD call tariffs by 39 per cent to the US and Canada to Rs 1.99 per minute.

Airtel mobile subscribers can avail themselves of the low tariffs by buying a global calling card worth Rs 2,245. Reliance Communication had announced a similar tariff on its calling card worth Rs 1,900. Subscribers buying calling cards of other denominations will not get the benefit of the revised tariff.

"Airtel as an industry leader has always been at the forefront of leading affordability, driving value and expanding the market. India is a global economic powerhouse today with business interests spanning boundaries. With more and more Indians connecting with their friends, family and business associates across the world, it is imperative that international calling becomes more affordable," said Mr Sanjay Gupta, Chief Marketing Officer, Mobile Services, Bharti Airtel.

The new tariffs are applicable from May 22.
