Bangalore May 21 Mysore has overtaken Mangalore in software exports with the figure touching Rs 760 crore this year, a growth of 94 per cent, underlining the increasing acceptance of tier-II cities by IT and ITES companies.

Mangalore had a growth of 21 per cent with Rs 681 crore of exports. The State's overall software exports grew 33 per cent during the financial year 2007 at $11.3 billion against $8.3 billion in the previous year. In addition, IT hardware registered exports worth Rs 2,950 crore.

Addressing at a press conference here on Monday, Mr J. Parthasarathy, Director, Software Technology Parks of India, Bangalore, said Karnataka had attracted Rs 3,000 crore investments during the year and tier-II cities added to the momentum of IT spread in the State.

Hubli, which joined the IT bandwagon much later, saw its exports increasing by almost 50 per cent to Rs 8 crore from Rs 5 crore.

Mr Parthasarathy, who was addressing the mediapersons jointly with Mr N. Vidyashankar, Secretary, IT, Bio Technology and Science & Technology, said with increasing air connectivity to the smaller cities from Bangalore, IT growth was expected to get an impetus soon.

Announcing the launch of the campaign for Asia's biggest IT and telecom event, the Bangalore IT.in 2007, Mr Vidyashankar said the event's theme of "Fostering Innovation" will capture the State's IT revolution. This year it will be held at the Bangalore International Exhibition Centre, a permanent exhibition venue built by the Indian Machine Tool Industries Association.
