New Delhi, May 21

Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd (BHEL) on Monday said the company's power generating sets produced 7.5 per cent more electricity in 2006-07 at 432.81 billion units compared with the previous fiscal. The company's thermal sets recorded a 78.3 per cent plant load factor (PLF), 1.5 per cent higher than the national average, BHEL said in a statement.

"Notably, 75 BHEL sets achieved PLF of over 90 per cent, while six BHEL-make thermal sets of various ratings operated at a record PLF of 100 per cent," the statement said. Out of 34 power stations including thermal, nuclear, gas and hydro, conferred by the Government's Meritorious Productivity Awards, as many as 29 were equipped with generating equipment manufactured and supplied by BHEL. The total BHEL generating sets installed in the country is nearly 81,000 MW, the company said, and added it contributes 73 per cent electricity of the total generation.
