Integrated steel plant to come up in Kadapa district


The GMR Hyderabad International Airport and Lufthansa Technic AG project will see investment of Rs 100 crore.

Hyderabad May 21 The State Investment Promotion Board (SIPB) on Monday cleared seven mega projects including the proposals of Bramhani Industries Ltd for an Rs 4,500 crore integrated steel plant, MRF truck tyre unit, RKKR Steels, GMR-Lufthansa Technic AG, and Solar Semiconductor projects.

The SIPB, which met here at the State Secretariat under the chairmanship of the Chief Minister, Dr Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, also cleared the proposals of Amaravathi Textiles and AGI Glaspac.

The RKKR Steel project is to come up at Kolanakunduru village in Nellore district for the manufacture of special alloy steel bars, roads, wire rods and bright bars with an investment of Rs 330 to Rs 400 crore and employment potential of 1800 people. It will have capacity for 2.5 lakh tonnes per year.

The GMR Hyderabad International Airport and Lufthansa Technic AG project involves maintenance, repair and overhaul facility and will see investment of Rs 100 crore. It will have potential to employ about 1000 people.

The AGI Glaspac project at Bhongir in Nalgonda district envisages an investment of Rs 500 crore for setting up of a 500 mt unit. The project has employment potential for 1500 people.

Solar Semiconductor project planned at Fab City proposes to make photovoltaic solar cell and solar module assembly line unit and seeks to invest Rs 4,500 crore and generate employment for about 5000 people. Amaravathi Textile proposal is to establish a spinning mill in Prakasam district with an investment of Rs 361 crore, having the capacity to make about one lakh spindles.

Tyre maker MRF Ltd's proposal for investment of Rs 300 crore in a truck tyre manufacturing unit at Medak district was also approved by the SIPB.

MoU for steel unit

The State Government and Obulapuram Mining Company today entered into an agreement to establish an integrated steel plant in the Kadapa district of the State.

The memorandum was signed by the State Principal Secretary Industry, Mr Busi Sam Bob, and Mr G. Janardhana Reddy, Chairman of Obulapuram Mining Company, in the presence of Dr Rajasekhara Reddy, for setting up Bramhani Industries Ltd steel plant.

The company plans to invest Rs 4,500 crore in the 2 mt per annum steel plant in phase one to be completed within 16-18 months. In four phases it is proposed to invest about Rs 20,000 crore by 2017 taking the total capacity to 10 mt per annum. The project has been allotted 8,000 acres of barren land in Jammalamadugu and the State has also agreed to provide all incentives as applicable under the Industrial Policy.
